Manual / Mare 0.21
Where your notes live
Not inside Mare. A workspace is an ordinary folder:
notes/→ one plain text file per note, named after its titleattachments/→ your pictures and filesREADME.md→ a list of your notes by tag, readable without Mare.mare/→ what a text file can't hold, like pins and picture sizes.git/→ the history of every sync. This is what makes Going back in time work
A workspace with thousands of notes opens right away on a new device. Mare loads the notes while you look around. The line at the bottom of the sidebar shows the progress. Search, tags and sync wait for the notes that aren't loaded yet.
Open the folder in any file manager and your notes are right there. Stop using Mare tomorrow and you lose nothing. The exception is locked notes: those need Mare and your password.
Want another workspace, or one you already keep somewhere? On the start screen → Open or create workspace → pick where it lives:
- On this device → the workspaces in your Mare folder that aren't in the list, and New workspace for an empty one. Open another folder opens one from anywhere else
- Google Drive → the workspaces in your Drive, each with the time it last changed, and New workspace
- Git repository, Shared folder, SFTP server, S3 bucket → fill in the location. If a workspace is stored there, Mare downloads it. An empty location gets a new workspace
The icon beside a workspace in the list shows which of these it syncs with.
Done with a workspace? On the start screen → the … on its row → Remove from this list takes it off the list and keeps the folder. Delete from this computer deletes the folder too, after asking. Copies you synced elsewhere stay where they are.
