Manual / Mare 0.21
AI agents
An AI assistant that runs on your computer, such as Claude or Codex, can work with your notes. It can search them, read a note, write a new note, add to one, tag one, and attach a picture or a file to one.
- Settings → AI agents → Allow AI agents
- Under Add Mare to an assistant → Add beside the one you use
- Ask the assistant something about your notes, or ask it to write one
- It works with the open workspace. While Mare is closed, it works with the workspace you last had open
- All workspaces → turn it on and an assistant can list your workspaces and work in any of them
- Agents may write → turn it off and an assistant can only search and read
- Locked notes are hidden completely. An assistant can't see that they exist
- If an assistant changes a note you have open, you see the change right away. Mare saves what you typed first
- An assistant that writes
[[Title]]gets a link to the note with that title, just as you do when you pick one after[[. If no note has that title, Mare tells the assistant - Mare sends nothing anywhere. The assistant asks on your own computer and Mare answers there. What the assistant does with what it read is between you and the assistant
Using another assistant? Anything that supports the Model Context Protocol can start Mare with the command shown on that page.
